There are global concerns about finite oil resources and the environmental impact of energy generation. Several of the major Kjeller institutes (Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) and NORSAR (Norwegian Seismic Array) have strong ongoing activities in developing cleaner energy technologies, assessing the environmental damage from power generation and analyzing the global economics of the energy sector.
A diverse range of research themes may include (but not limited to) photovoltaics, wind energy, hydrogen and fuel cells, renewable energy production, environmental impact, environmental monitoring, economics and social aspects.
UNIK is now positioning itself to join in these challenging areas of research by establishing a research curriculum through master and PhD courses which should provide a wide spectrum of knowledge base in energy and environment areas.
This course work, which will be offered on behalf of the University of Oslo (UiO) and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), will be anchored in the research activities at the Kjeller institutes. Master and PhD theses are carried out and offered mainly at these institutes along with supervisors from UNIK. The research is typically industry focused and there are strong links with industry across the portfolio of activity. |
